Happy summer, readers! (Or winter, if you live south of the Equator.)
I’m sure in the course of your time as a reader, you have seen lists of the must-read books of the summer or the books that everyone should read over the summer.
I have put together my list, but it’s just a list of the books I hope to have read by the time fall rolls around. There’s no rhyme or reason to the list and some of the books, I’ve written about before. (The links to the previous posts are included in the blurb about that book if you’re interested.)
So, without further ado and in no particular order, the Bibliofiles 2015 Summer Reading List:
This book sounds intense, thrilling, suspenseful, basically everything you could want in a book you’re reading while catching some sun. The chill this book is supposed to give you will help you from getting too warm. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
While summer can be a time for a budding romance to begin, why not learn about the sociological changes in dating over the previous couple of generations? Maybe reading this book this summer will lead to romance that lasts all the way until summer 2016…
- Sea Change by Karen White

I’m currently in the midst of this book and it’s amazing. The plot centers on Ava and her new husband, Matthew, who has some dark secrets in his past. While Ava adjusts to a new life in a new city, she feels connected to the past, specifically a woman named Pamela. White interweaves the two plots seamlessly and the book is truly a book you could curl up on the beach with for hours.
A sultry, romantic read for a sultry summer day. And it’s not going to get you nearly as many stares as reading the new 50 Shades of Grey book will.
- Unbecoming by Rebecca Scherm
I just got this e-book from my library and I’m excited to read it. Goodreads describes it as “intricately plotted and psychologically nuanced heist novel that turns on suspense and slippery identity.” Sounds like my kind of read.

I had wanted to read both of these books, but then I won a copy of A God in Ruins in a Goodreads giveaway. So, now I have even more reason to get both these books read this summer!
Because I’m obsessed with all things British, especially the youngest royals, this is the perfect summertime read to quench my thirst for more adorable photos of George and Charlotte.
- Lost Girls by Robert Kolker
This is a non-fiction account of several unsolved murders along the eastern seaboard. While the victims are all escorts that met their likely killer through online ads, this book is written by a prize-winning journalist and is an interesting subject matter.
- Beneath the Surface by John Hargrove

Last summer, I read Death at Sea World by David Kirby. That was shortly after I saw Blackfish for the first time. This book, written by a former trainer who worked with more than 20 whales over several decades, provides a look behind the curtain. I’m really curious to read about what Hargrove knew about what he was doing and when. This will be a nice companion read for me.
