My Wednesday wanna-read post this week is a book that is purported to be in the same vein as Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train.
Alafair Burke’s The Ex came out about two months ago and it has been getting a lot of positive reviews.
The Ex has an average Goodreads rating of nearly 3.8 stars.
The Ex focuses on Olivia Randall, a criminal defense attorney in New York. Olivia takes on the case of her ex-fiance, Jack, who is charged in a triple homicide. One of the victims in that triple homicide is tied to the earlier murder of Jack’s wife.
From Goodreads: “There is no doubt in her mind as to his innocence. The only question is who would go to such great lengths to frame him—and why?
For Olivia, representing Jack is a way to make up for past regrets, to absolve herself of guilt from a tragic decision, a secret she has held for twenty years. But as the evidence against him mounts, she is forced to confront her doubts. The man she knew could not have done this. But what if she never really knew him?”
Sounds good, right?
Burke has written a couple series focusing on strong female protagonists, all of them related to criminal justice. I have not read any of those books, but that would lead me to believe there is some promise in this title.
