My Wednesday wanna-read this week fits into — you guessed it — the thriller/mystery genre.
Fiona Barton’s The Widow, released earlier this year, has garnered acclaim and been recommended as a must-read for those who enjoyed Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train.
This is Barton’s first book, as far as I can tell.
According to the Goodreads summary, Jean (the main character) realizes she doesn’t have to be the person she had been once her husband dies.
“There’s a lot Jean hasn’t said over the years about the crime her husband was suspected of committing. She was too busy being the perfect wife, standing by her man while living with the accusing glares and the anonymous harassment,” the Goodreads summary says, in part.
Jean apparently has some secrets of her own. The last sentence of the summary alludes to Jean’s ability to get people to believe anything.
This character sounds like a mix of Rachel from Girl on the Train and Amy from Gone Girl. I’m curious to see how this hybrid sort of character works and if she is sympathetic at all.
I’ve also seen good reviews from other book bloggers raving about this book. Here’s hoping it is as good as advertised.
